Eternal Punishment or Reward
There is a day appointed in which God will judge the world in righteousness by Jesus Christ.
“Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.” Acts 17:31.
We will be judged according to what we have done in this present life.
“But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God.” Romans 2:5.
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” II Corinthians 5:10.
“Who will render to every man according to his deeds.” Romans 2:6.
“But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done; and there is no respect of persons.” Colossians 3:25.
“Be not deceived: God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption: but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians 6:7,8.
The final judgment of the just and unjust will take place on the very same day, which is the Judgment Day, when Jesus comes again.
“But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath. Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile. But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentiles: For there is no respect of persons with God. Romans 2:6-11.
“For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they [the non-believers] shall say, Peace and safety: then sudden destruction cometh upon them [non-believers,] as travail upon a woman with child; and they [unbelievers] shall not escape. I Thess. 5:2,3.
“Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation [final and eternal] to them that trouble you [Christians] And [on the same day] to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.” II Thess. 1:6-10.
“When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them on from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world…Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” Matthew 25:31-34 & 41.
Upon a person’s death they are received into hades–the place for departed souls until the final Judgment Day. There is a place of torment for the lost, and paradise for the children of God. Once there, there is no possibility of changing their destination, but only a looking forward to their final sentence on the great day of judgment.
“And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this between us and you there is a great gulf fixed so that the which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.” Luke 16:23-26.
“And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43.
“And death and hell [hades] were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” Revelation 20:14.
The judgment pronounced on the final Judgment Day is eternal--either eternal life or eternal ruin.
“Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation [final and eternal] to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.” II Thess. 1:6-10.
“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” Matthew 25:41.
“Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. Matthew 18:8
“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.” Matthew 25:46.
“And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.” Mark 10:29,30.
“Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and immortality, eternal life.” Romans 2:6,7.
