The Wickedness of Tolerance

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” Isaiah 5:20-21

Eve, after being seduced by Satan’s lie, was the first human being to call evil good, to put darkness for light, and bitter for sweet. The devil so blurred the lines that his lie appeared to Eve as truth, and, consequently, God’s truth appeared to her as a lie. Adam then fell under the same spell, thereby bringing the curse of sin upon every person born into this world since that time. (The devil, ever promising people liberty, always brings them into the bondage of sin.)

Tolerating evil and calling it something other than what it is leads to the ruin of mankind. It is no wonder that the Bible pronounces a woe upon those that do it. Tolerate evil, and it will be just a matter of time before you do evil.

Polar Opposites

The scripture above speaks of things clearly distinct from one another–polar opposites, if you will–evil and good, darkness and light, bitter and sweet. To pervert and confound these things would be confusion. Honey will never be bitter. Evil will never be good. There is no bridge or fusion possible. A line is drawn between these opposites–and, in the matter of morality, the crossing of that line becomes criminal. It is high treason against the God of heaven and to His holy laws. It is a call to all-out war for the righteous. No compromises are possible. God’s holy army will seek no terms of peace with Satan.

Thomas Mann rightly declared that “Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil.”

There is a distinct difference between good and evil. Take that difference away, and, not only will the wicked be justified, but righteous persons will be condemned. There are plentiful examples of this in today’s world.

Truth is absolute, not relative. It makes terms with none, for in so doing, it would no longer be truth. Yet, today’s advocates of evil, chafing against moral confines, decry any judgment against wrong or unbiblical conduct. They become a judge of the judgers–even if the judgers are not showing any disrespect to the individual they and the Word of God happen to disagree with. Since when does disagreeing with another predicate hatred for him? I hate the effect of alcoholism on people’s lives. That does not mean that I hate the alcoholic himself.

Warping Minds

We have all heard the dragon-infused mantra–to tolerate is to love. It is about being inclusive. It is about acceptance and respecting others’ rights. Don’t be narrow-minded or old fashioned, and on and on.

Tolerate, tolerate, tolerate. This lovely word has been hijacked and perverted for an unholy cause. Its out-of-context use has been an effective tool of Satan to warp minds concerning sin.

Consequently, what was once unquestionably known to be scandalous and wicked to prior generations not far removed, is now considered praiseworthy to multitudes.

Politician Robert Casey said, “Tolerance is the price we pay for living in a free, pluralistic society.” While speaking against abortion he declared “We live in a time of anarchy–when those who claim the right to choose deny pro-life advocates the right to speak.” This is but one example of the evil seeking to silence the good.

Through Satan’s insidious working through the years to normalize and glorify sin in the minds of the populace, the worldview has made an amazing paradigm shift. How boldly sin now struts in the streets, perverting young and old. See it trample on the Word of God and defy the holy, with courtrooms, schoolrooms, and governments at its defence.

How very crooked and perverse is this generation! Being giddy with sin, they tolerate the murder of millions of unborn babies under the guise of respect for the mother’s rights. Others line city streets to cheer on poor souls bound in unnatural lusts, none considering that they are marching on their way to the Final Judgment, unprepared to meet God. They will call it hate if you do not the same. Multitudes indulge in fornication and adultery and “think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you” (1 Peter 4:4)! The apostle Paul was so right when he said that in the last days people would be “unholy” and “despisers of those that are good” (2 Tim. 3:2-3).

So toxic are the effects of this mass seduction that even professed Christians have fallen prey to the “love and acceptance” of evil, beguiled by the devil’s doctrine of inclusion, to the point of tolerating evil in those occupying their own pulpits. Is it any wonder that many are so disgusted with “mainstream Christianity”?

Albert Einstein stated, “The world is in greater peril from those who tolerate or encourage evil than from those who actually commit it.”

Evil will abound when none will stand against it.

A Prophetic Hour

Satan has always been a deceiver, for he is the father of lies (John 8:44), yet scripture reveals that right before the very end of time–which is now–there would come a season particularly marked with deception; deception so great that whole nations would be affected.

And when the thousand years are expired, Satan [through the spirit of paganism] shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.” Rev. 20:7-9

All of the forces of evil, both secular and religious, are now gathered together to war against God’s one true and holy church. This is the final battle in the war of Armageddon, which has been raging since Eden. We are now nearing the climax in the clash between good and evil. And, as in Eden, Satan, with his usual subtlety, is presenting a lie as truth, and God’s truth as a lie. He is promoting evil as good and good as evil. Who has not been charmed by his wiles? See the nations bow, then listen to the groaning of the sin-laden host.

And, if we will not bow to their mantra or dance to their piping? If we withhold our blessing on their evil works? Well, it usually is not received with tolerance and understanding from the advocates of evil. Jesus explains why this is: “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.” John 3:19-20. They want toleration. They despise reproof. The result? Perhaps those who do good will receive a summons to court for a hate crime, or be decried as proud, hard-lined, homophobic, bigoted, or whatever other epithet they deem suits the situation or sin.

Flee from the Wrath to Come

This extreme demand for toleration of sin comes at a time when the end of all things is at hand and the Judge is at the door about to call this world into final judgment. Satan knows his time is short and has great wrath.

If ever Christians needed to lift up their voice like a trumpet and show the people their sin, it is now. An urgent wakeup call is needed. The fierceness of God’s wrath is about to break upon sinning mankind in a display of power that will strike an unspeakable terror into the hearts of the wicked. Satan’s spell will be forever banished on that day. How desperately urgent it is then for the holy to warn this sin-calloused generation to flee from the wrath to come! This is no time to comfort or encourage people to continue in their ungodly lifestyles.

Woe to False Religious Professors

And, at this juncture, I will say woe upon woe to those who, in the midst of this great fray, profess the name of Jesus Christ while they yet live and propagate a sinning religion infested with the spirit of the world. Had those behind the pulpits of the land decried sin and been the holy restraint against the works of darkness as they should have been all these years, the devil would have had a more difficult time accomplishing his agenda in convincing the masses to tolerate evil. Your silence, low-living, and tolerance of sin has made you the devil’s ally. Your toleration of evil and darkness; your calling it by another name has been Satan’s comedy hour as you cooperate with his serpentine plan and so ably promote his wicked cause in deceiving the nations. You befriend the world that Jesus is at enmity with (James 4:4) and add to your sin by condemning the righteous who obey His conjunction to be separate from the world. You are the Gog and Magog powers that are joined to the dragon that was loosed from the bottomless pit in this end of time to fight against God’s true people (Rev. 20:7-9). Your contribution to the perversion and confusion of this age will be met by the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

Hate Evil

“Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.” Psalm 97:10. “Hate evil”–now that is going against the flow! That will take courage and conviction–and a real love for the sinners.

Tolerating sin is a far cry from hating it. Tolerate sin–that thing which God hates? Tolerate sin–the very thing that has produced every woe that mankind has suffered since Eden? The very purpose of Jesus Christ coming into this world was to condemn sin (Rom. 8:3; 1 Jn. 3:8). Of this, Adam Clarke stated, “The design and object of the incarnation and sacrifice of Christ was to condemn sin, to have it executed and destroyed; not to tolerate it as some think… but to annihilate its power, guilt, and being in the soul of a believer.” To tolerate sin would be a woeful injustice to the very ones deceived and bound by it.

“God is angry with the wicked every day” (Psalm 7:11b), and His face “is against them that do evil” (1 Pet. 3:12b). How, then, can I pet and applaud their evil deeds?

Intolerant of Sin

Let it be known that we, the people of God, are intolerant of sin. Sinners we love and will seek to rescue all we can before the last trump sounds, but sin we hate. It is the destruction of man.
